Privacy Policy

FoodFinder is an app for viewing NC State Dining menus, hours, and events. It is developed by the Android team of the App Development Club at NC State (referred to below as "we", "us", or "our").

The short version

FoodFinder does not collect any personal information. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking. The app asks for only the minimum permissions it needs to work.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect, request, or store any of the following:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or other contact details
• Your location
• Your contacts, photos, files, or other content on your device
• Any account or login credentials, since the app has no accounts
• Advertising identifiers or any data used to track you across apps

Information handled by the app

The following information is handled entirely on your device and is not sent to us:

• Favorites. Menu items you mark as favorites are stored locally on your device.
• Cached menus, hours, and photos. Content you view is saved on your device so the app works quickly and can be used offline.
• Notification settings. Notifications about your favorites are generated on your device. We do not run a push notification service.

When you ask the app to find menus that include your favorite items, the app sends the names of those menu items (for example, "Chicken Parmesan") to our server so it can search the dining menus. These are food item names, not personal details, and they are not linked to you or your device.

Server logs

Like most online services, our server may record standard technical information when the app makes a request, such as the request itself and an IP address. This information is used only to operate and secure the service. It is not used to identify you and is not shared or sold.

How we use information

We use the information described above solely to provide the app's features: showing dining menus, hours, and events, and helping you find your favorite items. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing.

Third-party services

FoodFinder does not include advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs. Menus, hours, and location photos come from publicly available NC State Dining sources and are delivered to the app through our own server.

Requests to our server are routed through Cloudflare, which acts as a reverse proxy and provides security and performance features such as TLS termination and DDoS protection. As part of this, Cloudflare processes technical request information, including IP addresses, on our behalf. We do not use Cloudflare for advertising or analytics.

Data retention and deletion

Favorites, cached content, and settings remain on your device until you delete them within the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling FoodFinder removes this locally stored data from your device. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for operation and security, then deleted.

Security

Requests between the app and our server are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections.

Open source

FoodFinder is open source, so you can review exactly how it handles data for yourself. The code is available at github.com/NCSU-App-Development-Club/FoodFinder.

Children's privacy

FoodFinder is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. Because we do not collect personal information, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
